So exciting, it's a busy time at the florist because it's Homecoming Season! This weekend is Barnegat High School, and Lacey High School - last weekend was Southern Regional. Homecoming flowers have certainly come a long way - because this event is usually tied to a homecoming football game, the tradition for many years was for girls to wear "homecoming mums" - oversized football mums in fall shades, often pinned to their jacket or dress, like Meryl Streep, in her homecoming photo below:
In Texas, they are known for having H U G E homecoming mums, adorned with ribbons, lettering and ornamentation that represents the student, or the school. Boys wear "garters", slightly smaller floral bands on their biceps.
As modern floral availability changed, so did the corsages, evolving to smaller multi-floral corsages with miniature mums. Today, it's all about customized flowers, with most every shade being represented, and the bling factor grows every year.
Wristlets are our top sellers - and we're thrilled to have some students requesting fall colors, miniature carnations, tropical blooms and even fall colors. Our classic is the white rose wristlet, often tipped with a colorful accent like glitter tips. And to add to the keepsake factor, we have these awesome crystal bracelets - we add a fresh flower frame that can be snipped off after the dance, providing a pretty gift to keep.
These are some images from our corsage album - which is your favorite?
